Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall to Host Annual Easter Sunrise Service

The annual National Military Easter Sunrise Service will be held Sunday, April 20, at Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater and hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (JBM-HH). The service, which will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., will also be live streamed on the Joint Base Facebook page

The non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service provides a celebration of hope and spiritual enrichment for all who view it. The service begins with a prelude by the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” at 6:15 a.m. The call to worship begins at 6:30 a.m.

► Amphitheater seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

► Arlington National Cemetery gates will open at 5 a.m.

► There are two ways to access the cemetery for the service.


General Public (Guests without a Department of Defense ID)

•  Enter ANC via Memorial Avenue and park in the Welcome Center parking garage, where parking is free from 5 to 9 a.m. on Easter Sunday. Fees for parking begin at 9 a.m.

•  A free shuttle service will transport all guests from the ANC Welcome Center.

•  Guests may not walk to the amphitheater from the parking garage.


DoD ID Card Holders Only

•  DoD ID card holders may enter ANC with the general public via Memorial Avenue, or enter Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall via the main gate (Hatfield Gate) and park at Old Post Chapel in the Tri-Services Parking Lot. A free shuttle will transport guests to the amphitheater.

•  DoD ID card holders are advised that the Trusted Traveler program at JBM-HH is currently in effect. Individuals aged 18 and older holding a Department of Defense identification card may vouch for up to eight occupants inside their vehicle. Occupants must still have a valid state issued identification for access to the base. Please click here for more information

•  Following the service, shuttles will transport guests back to the parking lots. Guests will also have the option of walking back to their parked vehicles.


More Information

•  Prohibited items include backpacks, weapons, alcohol, laser pointers, drones, pop-up tents/quick shades and pets (including emotional support and therapy animals).

•  Certified service animals are welcome.

•  Blankets, seat cushions, chairs, baby strollers, diaper bags and water in clear, plastic bottles are allowed.

•  For those who choose to view the service online, please access the JBM-HH Facebook page at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 20.

•  In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in Memorial Chapel located on the Myer campus of the joint base. In the event of a weather call, visitors will not be able to access joint base through Arlington National Cemetery.
