Arlington National Cemetery used its app, "ANC Explorer," to assist volunteers in locating trucks and finding sections needing wreath placement. Arlington created a map with the locations of trucks with wreaths and temporary restrooms so that volunteers could better manage their time at the cemetery. Officials pushed notifications for those using the app within the cemetery -- letting them know where trucks were empty and sections where they needed help placing wreaths. This is the first time that Arlington has used its app to assist Wreaths Across America. There were over 3,500 downloads in the days leading up to the event. Notifications went to 2,200 devices during the wreath placement effort.
Arlington National Cemetery's app "ANC Explorer" connects families, visitors and the public to the cemetery's rich history and all of those who rest here by enhancing their onsite visit or allowing them to visit "virtually" whenever they want. Originally launched in October 2012, "ANC Explorer" enables users to locate gravesites, events or other points of interest throughout the cemetery; view front-and-back photos of headstones or points of interest, and receive walking directions to these locations. The latest version enhances the functions found in the first version and also gives users the ability to save searched burial records to their mobile device, view self-guided tours, and link to social media. The app is free and available for download via the iOS App Store and Android Google Play. "ANC Explorer" can also be accessed through the cemetery’s website and onsite kiosks.
