“Remember the Maine!!!” Special exhibit and tour commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the USS Maine Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery

3/13/2015

As part of the 100th anniversary of the USS Maine Memorial dedication at Arlington National Cemetery, we have created a Spanish-American War exhibit and walking tour.

The exhibit is in remembrance of the upcoming 100th Anniversary of the dedication of the USS Maine Memorial, which occurred on May 30, 1915. The display tells the story of the Maine and her destruction on Feb. 15, 1898 in Havana Harbor, the Spanish-American War, the repatriation of our service members who fell during the conflict, and the Maine Memorial. The exhibit is located in the lower level of the Memorial Amphitheater until May 3.

In conjunction with the display, a special tour is available on the cemetery’s app “ANC Explorer.” The tour focuses on select points of interest related to the Spanish-American War, including Section 21 (sometimes called the Nurse's Section) to visit the nurses buried there, Section 22 to visit the repatriated service members buried there, Section 23 to visit the African American Soldiers buried there; and Section 24 to visit service members killed when the USS Maine exploded in Havana Harbor.
