The sculpture "Victory" fully restored, on display at the Memorial Amphitheater

4/25/2017
The sculpture "Victory" in our collection, was a gift from the President of the Republic of China in 1921.

The piece is by the preeminent 19th Century sculpture Augustus Saint-Gaudens, who created the Standing Lincoln in Chicago, the Shaw Memorial in Boston, the Adams Memorial in Washington, D.C., and most notable the Sherman Monument in New York City on 5th Avenue.

Our casting dates to sometime between 1902 and 1907 and is a reduced size model of Victory. The full-sized Victory stands in front of Sherman on the monument in New York.

She has undergone restoration and is now on display in the Display Room of the Memorial Amphitheater.
