ANC Explorer 2.0 available for download

Today Arlington National Cemetery, released an update to its app, ANC Explorer.  ANC Explorer 2.0 has enhanced features such as slide out navigation menus, advanced routing, and provides easy access to general information about the cemetery (e.g. Plan Your Visit, What to See).  Users will have the ability to save searched burial records and points of interest to create custom tours, link to social media apps, and take and send postcards within the app. It is currently available only through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

The following road closures near Arlington National Cemetery will be in effect Sunday, May 25, 2014 for the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally. Visitors driving to Arlington should use Route 110. • Ramp from the George Washington Parkway to Washington Boulevard from 6 a.m. -  5 p.m.  • Ramp from I-395 North to Washington Boulevard (Exit 8B) from 7 a.m. -  5 p.m.  • Ramp on Washington Boulevard East Bound from Columbia Pike from 7 a.m. -  5 p.m.  • Ramp from Columbia Pike to Washington Blvd (both directions) from 7 a.m. -  5 p.m.  


Commemoration events under way to honor Arlington National Cemetery’s 150th anniversary

Arlington National Cemetery opened the five-week commemoration for its 150th anniversary with a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of Army Pvt. William Christman, who was the first military burial at Arlington. At the age of 20, Christman enlisted in the 67th Pennsylvania Infantry on March 25, 1864, and was hospitalized for measles five weeks later. He died on May 11 and was buried at Arlington on May 13. Members of the Christman family were present at the ceremony and placed a wreath at his grave. Rick Bodenschatz, representing the Tobyhanna Township Historical Association, placed a stone of remembrance from the original Christman home. The family home, located in Pocono Lake, Tobyhanna Township, was built from funds received from Christman’s Army service. The cemetery will also host informative lectures and tours that highlight the history of the United States through the eyes of its heroes buried at Arlington and the military conflicts that shaped the cemetery ...

ANC 150, the commemoration of 150 years of Arlington as a national cemetery, begins Tuesday, May 13 with an Army wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of Army Pvt. William Christman, the first military burial at Arlington. At the age of 20, Christman enlisted in the 67th Pennsylvania Infantry on March 25, 1864, and was hospitalized for measles five weeks later. He died on May 11 and was buried at Arlington on May 13.

Advisory Committee on Arlington National Cemetery subcommittee meetings, April 30

The Department of the Army announced the following federal advisory subcommittee meetings of the Advisory Committee on Arlington National Cemetery (ACANC). The meetings will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. The meetings are open to the public. The Women in Military Service for America Memorial is fully handicapped accessible. Arlington National Cemetery will host a series of events from May through June 2014 to honor the traditions, remember the sacrifice and explore the history of the cemetery as it commemorates 150 years as a national cemetery. The commemoration begins with a wreath laying ceremony May 13 at the gravesite of Army Pvt. William Christman, the first military burial at Arlington, and concludes with a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on June 16, the day after Arlington officially became a national cemetery. The cemetery will also host lectures and tours that highlight the history of the United States through the eyes of the heroes buried at Arlington and the military conflicts that shaped the cemetery and the nation.
