Arlington goes “green” with eco-friendly vehicles

Arlington National Cemetery is replacing many of its gas-powered vehicles with smaller “right sized” vehicles, hybrids and electric-only vehicles. The goal is to promote environmental responsibility, improve the cemetery’s day-to-day operations, and save money.

Arlington develops cultural resources plan

Arlington National Cemetery is working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Norfolk (Va.) District and Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, Champaign, Ill., to develop an Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan as well as a programmatic agreement and nomination for the National Register of Historic Places.

The 150th Anniversary of Taps

Taps 150 will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Taps, our National Song of Remembrance, in the Old Amphitheater (near the Arlington House) at Arlington National Cemetery, Saturday May 19, 2012 from 10 a.m. to noon. Buglers from all over the country will participate. After the ceremony, buglers will move to various locations in the cemetery and simultaneously sound Taps at noon. Click here to listen to “Taps”

Dover’s Friends of the Fallen visit Arlington

Six members of the Friends of the Fallen, a group of approximately 50 volunteers who assist families who visit Dover Air Force Base, Del., to witness the dignified transfer of their loved ones, visited Arlington National Cemetery March 27.

An Armed Forces Full Honors Wreath Ceremony recognizing the birthday of President John F. Kennedy will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2012, 10 a.m. at the gravesite in section 45.

EVENT: Arbor Day Tree Planting to replace lost "Arlington Oak"

In celebration of Arbor Day, Arlington National Cemetery will conduct a ceremony to plant a tree sapling descendent from its "Arlington Oak," the 220-year-old post oak tree which once stood near the John F. Kennedy gravesite. The tree fell during Hurricane Irene in August 2011.

Arlington Cemetery Metro Stop Closed at 10 p.m. on April 27th to April 29nd

Metro will continue to perform major track work over the weekend of April 27-29. The work will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through system closing on Sunday.
