Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall to Host Annual Easter Sunrise Service

The annual National Military Easter Sunrise Service will be held Sunday, April 20 at Arlington National Cemetery’s Memorial Amphitheater and hosted by Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The service, which will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., will also be live streamed on the joint base Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/jbmhh.
The non-denominational Easter Sunrise Service provides a celebration of hope and spiritual enrichment for all who view it. The service begins with a prelude by the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own,” at 6:15 a.m. The call to worship begins at 6:30 a.m.


Virtual Event: “Indescribable Horror”: When Eisenhower Witnessed the Holocaust

American soldiers were unprepared for what they discovered in the Ohrdruf concentration camp in Germany in April 1945: piles of bodies, walking skeletons on the verge of death and other unspeakable horrors. This shocking discovery prompted Supreme Allied Commander Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower to visit and bear witness to the atrocities himself. He was deeply affected by what he saw—and even then, he anticipated a future when these crimes might be denied. Eighty years later, learn why Eisenhower’s visit to Ohrdruf was a critical moment in documenting and protecting the truth of the Holocaust. Hear the stories of service members who encountered Ohrdruf, including Brig. Gen. Albin Irzyk, buried in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery.

Turf Renovations

Arlington National Cemetery renovates approximately 30 acres of turf each year. This process involves removing the old turf, adding amendments to the soil, tilling and re-grading the gravesites, and then sowing new grass seed.

ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery (SAHNC) in Washington, D.C. will hold their annual removal of wreaths, known as Wreaths Out, on Saturday, Jan. 11, beginning at 8 a.m.


Wreaths Across America Day: Dec. 14

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the annual Wreaths Across America (WAA) event will be held at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) and the Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery (SAHNC). Visitors will lay wreaths throughout ANC and SAHNC on headstones and columbarium niches to honor the sacrifice of our nation’s service members and veterans. ANC will open to visitors at   8 a.m. and SAHNC will open at noon.
