Arlington National Cemetery REAL ID Requirements Reminder

In anticipation of increased visitor traffic during the upcoming holiday season, Arlington National Cemetery reminds visitors that anyone over the age of 18 entering the cemetery in a vehicle—to include both drivers and passengers—must present a REAL ID-compliant identification at the security check point. This applies to all those authorized to who drive into the cemetery via Memorial Avenue, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall or the Service Complex Gate: funeral attendees, family pass holders, honor flights, contractors who do not possess a Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC) or an Automated Installation (AIE) badge, and family-hired photographers and florists.

Road Closures and Cemetery Access During Army Ten-Miler: Sunday, Oct. 12

On Sunday, Oct. 12, numerous roads in the vicinity of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) will be closed for the 41st annual Army Ten-Miler race.


Road Closures Within Arlington National Cemetery: Sept. 8 to Dec. 12

From Sept. 8 until approximately Dec. 12, 2025, a major road construction project will impact vehicular traffic within Arlington National Cemetery. For an overview of project phases and detour routes, refer to the above map (click to enlarge).


Air Force Memorial Reopening to Public: Aug. 25

The United States Air Force Memorial will reopen to the public on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025. 


Notice of New Pile Driving Activity

August 15, 2025

Beginning on or around Aug. 18, 2025, a contractor will begin pile driving for a new retaining wall located near the Foxcroft Heights neighborhood. Work will take place daily between 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.  This work will be occurring alongside the ongoing pile driving near Joyce St.


Display of Moses Ezekiel's Sculpture at Arlington National Cemetery

The U.S. Army has entered an agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia under which Virginia will loan one of Moses Ezekiel's historic sculptures for display at Ezekiel's burial site in Arlington National Cemetery. The Army expects to display the sculpture in 2027 after it has undergone complete refurbishment.


Notice of Asphalt Repair Work on July 29

July 28, 2025

ANC would like to inform the public of asphalt repair work taking place in the tram plaza near the Welcome Center (immediately east of Eisenhower Drive) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.  The public will see a coned off area of repaired asphalt. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic should avoid this area. Work to repair the asphalt is expected to be complete by July 30. 


Notice of Upcoming Construction Activity

July 24, 2025

Beginning on or around July 28, 2025, the contractor will begin pile driving for a new retaining wall located between Joyce Street and the I-395 ramps. Work will take place daily between 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Please be advised that this work may result in elevated noise levels due to pile driving activity. To minimize impact, the contractor will closely monitor both noise and vibration levels throughout the duration of this work.


UPDATE: Air Force Memorial Closure Due to Southern Expansion Project

July 23, 2025

The United States Air Force Memorial will remain temporarily closed and will reopen on or about Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, due to conditions at the Southern Expansion site. To ensure visitor safety during this key phase of construction, the main entrance to the Air Force Memorial will be inaccessible.
