This tour is currently full. In order to be placed on a standby list, please arrive in the Welcome Center by 10:30 a.m. on Sept 27. Members of the History Office will be located near the Bugler Statue past the security checkpoint to scan tickets and maintain the standby list. At 11:00 a.m., any unused tickets will be distributed to individuals on the standby list. However, we cannot guarantee any open seats. Since this tour is being conducted via tram, limited seating is available.
On Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, Arlington National Cemetery and the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration will be hosting a special public tram tour in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. Join us as we visit graves and memorials connected to this conflict and honor the contributions of the U.S. armed forces during the Vietnam War.
This public tram tour will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (approximately two hours long). The tour is free, but it does require registration. Click here to register through Eventbrite. Please Note: Because this is a tram tour, there will be limited space available. Registration on Eventbrite will proceed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This tour is being held in honor of the National MIA/POW (Missing in Action/Prisoner of War) Recognition Day, commemorated each September. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War in 2025, this is an excellent opportunity to learn from experts at the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration and appreciate the importance of this conflict in our nation’s history.
The tour will visit the gravesites of five service members: one each from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marine Corps.Stops include gravesites of individuals such as Gen. Colin Powell and Staff Sgt. Donald T. Dionne Sr., an Air Force flight engineer who died while ferrying orphans out of Saigon during Operation Baby Lift in 1975. Other stops will include the Vietnam Helicopter Pilot and Crewmember Monument and Memorial Tree, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Memorial Amphitheater Display Room exhibit, where ANC’s curator will showcase artifacts related to the Vietnam War. The tour will also include a viewing of the Changing of the Guard.
Attendance Details and Guidance
• Pre-registered attendees will meet in the Welcome Center behind the Bugler statue beginning at 10:30 a.m.
• Members of the tour team will scan Eventbrite tickets and escort attendees to the tram.
• This tour will be held rain or shine; please dress appropriately for weather conditions. Walking will be involved. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to walk on both sidewalks and uneven grassy terrain. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. Water may be purchased at the Welcome Center; water bottles can also be filled at numerous locations throughout the cemetery, including near stops on this tour.
