Weekend events may affect travel to Arlington National Cemetery

10/17/2012
There are two events this weekend that could affect traveling to Arlington National Cemetery.

On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Women in Military Service for America Memorial will conduct a ceremony to celebrate its 15 year anniversary. From 1:00 - 4:00 p.m., a portion of Memorial Avenue will be closed -- specifically the area between the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center parking lot entrance and WIMSA. The cemetery, metro stop and Visitors Center parking lot will be open as normal. Family and friends visiting specific gravesites will be allowed access through an internal gate from the parking garage. Please be advised that this access will be slower than normal and congestion may be heavy. Your patience is appreciated.

On Sunday, Oct. 21, the Army Ten Miler will take place through Washington, D.C. and Arlington, Va. From approximately 6:30 a.m. until approximately 11:00 a.m., all of Memorial Avenue will be closed, including the southbound Route 110 ramp from Memorial Avenue, Memorial Circle and Arlington Memorial Bridge. Route 110 will also be closed, starting as early as 5:30 a.m. The cemetery and metro stop will be open as normal. The Visitors Center parking lot will be closed.
