All items left at any gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery are considered abandoned property. In accordance with Army policy, ANC is maintaining the dignity and standards of a National Cemetery by removing items, to include those affixed to headstones, in Section 60. During frequent collection visits, ANC photographs and collects objects which are salvageable (not contaminated with mold, severe light damage, or have other types of serious deterioration) and determined to have unusual, artistic, or historical significance. ANC will dispose of items not collected to facilitate normal cemetery maintenance procedures, such as frequent mowing to maintain a neat and orderly appearance and prevent damage to maintenance equipment and adjacent markers.
