Staying Safe in Summertime Heat

6/25/2013

High pressure and humidity often drives our weather during the summer months in the Washington DC metropolitan area, temperatures can range from the low 80's to the upper triple digits. Often there is a chance for scattered afternoon thundershowers. As you visit Arlington National Cemetery please keep in mind that many of the sites require uphill walking which can be exhausting. Please ensure you are well hydrated and if possible begin your tour during the early morning hours or late afternoon prior to cemetery closing to avoid the midday high temperatures. Take frequent rest and water breaks to avoid overheating. If you notice anyone suffering from a heat related illness contact 911 immediately.

As a reminder bottled water can be purchased at Arlington's Welcome Center and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial (WIMSA), and water fountains are also located throughout the cemetery grounds.
