Arlington National Cemetery completely renovates more than 30 acres of turf each year, which includes removing the old turf, tilling the soil, and planting new turf from seed. Each year the maintenance crews work on a rotating basis, renovating different sections as needed.
This year, crews are staggering the work in four sections, starting with the western portion of section 8, and then moving to sections 12, 39 and 40. Right now and continuing for the next several weeks, you will notice signs in these sections/areas where work is being completed.
Unless you are visiting a particular grave in a section undergoing renovation, we please ask that you refrain from excessive walking on these areas when possible.
