Turf renovations underway at Arlington National Cemetery

7/31/2017

For the next several weeks, you will notice signs and work indicating Arlington National Cemetery is in the process of renovating the turf.  Please limit walking in these areas as much as possible, but do not hesitate to visit or place flowers at a gravesite.

This process involves removing the old turf and weeds, tilling the soil, re-grading the gravesites, and sowing new grass seed. The result will be a much healthier, thicker turf and ground that is more level.

Renovations have already started in sections 11, 34, and portions of section 3. Section 9 and a portion of section 17 will also be renovated this year.

Arlington National Cemetery renovates more than 30 acres of turf each year.
