MEDIA ADVISORY: National Memorial Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery

Memorial Day Media Events at Arlington National Cemetery

 

WHAT:       Department of Defense Recognition and Commemoration of the Fallen Men and  Women of the U.S. Armed Forces - 148th National Memorial Day Observance

 

WHEN:       Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m.

 

WHERE:      Arlington National Cemetery

 

EVENT DETAILS:   

 

7:30 a.m.   Media Desk located in the courtyard area of the Welcome Center opens.  Free parking is available in the welcome center’s parking garage.

 

8 a.m.      Media shuttle will begin transporting media to the ceremony site.  

 

9:30 a.m.   Media Desk closes and the final media shuttle departs to ceremony site.

  

10:30 a.m. United States Marine Band begins the prelude concert inside Memorial Amphitheater.

  

11 a.m.     Presidential Armed Forces Full Honor Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier followed by an observance program hosted by DoD in Arlington’s Memorial Amphitheater.

 

REGISTRATION: Media interested in covering the observance must register by noon, Thursday, May 21. To be placed on the credentialed list, send an email to usarmy.mcnair.mdw.mbx.mediadesk-omb@mail.mil with the following information: your name, email address, media organization, contact phone number and which ceremony you would like to cover (wreath-laying or observance program).

 

Satellite truck pre-cabling will occur Friday, May 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. Please send an email to melissa.r.bohan.civ@mail.mil with the following information: your name, email address, media organization, and contact phone number no later than noon Wednesday, May 20 to schedule an appointment.

 

The U.S. Army Military District of Washington Public Affairs Office will contact media outlets with their credential status no later than 2 p.m., Saturday, May 23.

 

 EDITOR’S NOTE: To recognize and commemorate the sacrifices of the fallen men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, Memorial Day Flowers will provide roses for visitors to place on headstones in the cemetery throughout the day.
