Information for Visitors with Disabilities

A visitor in a wheelchair lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Arlington National Cemetery welcomes ALL visitors to explore the rich history found within the cemetery grounds. We are firmly committed to finding solutions to the challenges presented by our historic grounds and to removing barriers any barriers that our visitors may encounter.  

 


Parking and Entrance

Designated accessible parking spaces are located on the top level of the visitors parking garage. Additional information on parking can be found here.


Public Transportation

The Arlington Cemetery station (wheelchair accessible) is on the Metro Blue Line. See the WMATA website for hours of operation, schedules, fares and other information. Elevators are located on both platforms.

Those with a valid disability placard or a proof of disability documentation can ride the Arlington National Cemetery Tours, Inc. (a private concessionaire) interpretive tour tram at no cost, with one companion. Examples of acceptable documents for proof of disability documentation are:

• Statements or letters on a physician's/medical professional's letterhead stationery.
• Statements, records or letters from a federal government agency that issues or provides disability benefits.
• Statements, records or letters from a state vocational rehabilitation agency counselor.
• Certification from a private vocational rehabilitation or other counselor who issues or provides disability benefits.

Arlington National Cemetery Tours, Inc. (a private concessionaire) will also provide a free shuttle to visit a particular gravesite. To use this service, please visit the ticket window at the Welcome Center and let them know the gravesite and location. If you do not know the gravesite location, you can look up the decedent's name on our free app, ANC Explorer, on your smartphone, web browser or at kiosks in the Welcome Center.

Sign language interpretation of tours is available upon request provided that at least four (4) weeks' notice is given.  Assisted listening devices are also available upon request. Please visit Arlington National Cemetery Tours, Inc.

We do not offer wheelchair rentals. However, there are businesses in the DC area that rent wheelchairs and scooters. We recommend that visitors in wheelchairs be accompanied by someone to assist them.


Service Animals

Service animals are welcome. Arlington National Cemetery follows the U.S. Department of Justice’s ADA requirements for service animals. The service animal must be trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability. It is our goal to ensure access to all visitors in accordance to Title 32 Code of Federal Regulations Part 553, which prohibits pets in the cemetery except for service animals.  


Requesting Accommodation

The United States Army is committed to ensuring that all activities, benefits, facilities, programs and services operated by Army National Military Cemeteries and Arlington National Cemetery are fully accessible to everyone. If you believe that a modification is in the best interest of ensuring that ANMC and ANC are accessible to you, and if this modification can reasonably be made, we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
