Road closure information in support of Army Ten-Miler, Oct. 7

WASHINGTON – More than 35,000 military and civilian runners are expected to attend the 34th Annual Army Ten-Miler Sunday, Oct. 7. The race starts and finishes at the Pentagon and the route passes through parts of Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.


Hours of operation change Oct. 1; Changing of the Guard takes place every hour

Effective Oct. 1, Arlington National Cemetery's hours of operation change to close two hours earlier each day. The cemetery is now open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The parking garage closes an hour later at 6 p.m.


Memorial Bridge closed to cars, bikes & pedestrians Sept. 28-Oct. 1

Due to ongoing high water in the Potomac River, the National Park Service delayed the work on Arlington Memorial Bridge again. The work is now scheduled to happen starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 and ending at 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct.1. During the closure, boaters in the Potomac River should approach the bridge with caution and avoid the area near its center span. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will need to use alternative routes to cross the Potomac River. 


Wreaths Across America 2018 scheduled for Dec. 15

Wreaths Across America will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018. Wreaths will be laid by volunteers at more than 1,400 locations across the country including Arlington National Cemetery. More information will be posted once known.

Normal operations resume after bomb threat

Arlington National Cemetery and Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall emergency services have cleared all areas of the cemetery. As of 3 p.m., normal operations have resumed and the cemetery is open to the general public.

Planned metrorail work to affect Arlington Cemetery

From Aug. 11-26, Metro will address the tightest curve in the entire Metrorail system between McPherson Square and Smithsonian Stations. Working around the clock, crews will rebuild the track infrastructure, including installation of new rail, new fasteners, and repairs to the concrete pads that support the rails.

These closures are designed to facilitate the safe passage of large crowds for the Independence Day events and fireworks.
