ARLINGTON, VA—Arlington National Cemetery’s (ANC) is announcing several further developments in its ongoing efforts to fully re-open services and its sites. The expanded activities and protocols are highlighted below.


Alternate Traffic Patterns in Effect on May 18

On Tuesday, May 18th, beginning at 8:00 a.m., Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) is temporarily adjusting traffic patterns entering the cemetery due to an event at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial. This modified pattern should end shortly after 10:00am.


New Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Viewing Location

April 30, 2021

From May 4 through May 21, the Sentinels from the 3d Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) will modify their watch and stand guard on the east side of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (TUS). Visitors will still be able to see the changing of the guard ceremony from the bottom of the steps on the mall instead of the Memorial Amphitheater steps.


Arlington National Cemetery Reopens for Tour Buses and Tour Groups

Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) is reopening to tour buses and tour groups starting April 19, 2021. ANC is taking this action as part of a gradual reopening under improved COVID-19 conditions. This is an important step in expanding services to our visitors as we host the yearlong centennial commemoration of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which culminates on Veterans Day 2021.


Medal of Honor Day: Educational Presentation

March 25, 2021

Join Arlington National Cemetery on March 25 at 12:25 p.m. for a Facebook Live streamed video of the Armed Forces Full Honors Wreath Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Three living Medal of Honor Recipients will join Maj. Gen. Omar Jones, commanding general, U.S. Army Military District of Washington, to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.


Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Limited Reopening to the Public

Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) will reopen the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Plaza to the visiting public on March 9, 2021. ANC is taking this action as part of a gradual reopening under improved COVID-19 conditions. Reopening the Tomb plaza to the public, while continuing to maintain current health protection conditions, is an important element of the yearlong centennial commemoration for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which culminates on Veterans Day 2021.


Arlington Cemetery Metro Station Closure

February 11, 2021

Beginning on Saturday, February 13, the Arlington Cemetery Metro station will be closed for platform reconstruction and station improvements. The closure is expected to last through mid-May. A free shuttle bus between the Rosslyn and Pentagon Metro stations will stop at the cemetery during operating hours.
